The way the hair flows like water is inspiring to me. I’ve used this motif several times. I put her on a ledge with the hair cascading into the water below. Nice pose too.

This painting of a beautiful sheep farm was instantly mandatory for me to paint. It was the meandering stream that took me by surprise though. It’s the type of scene I’m looking for all the time. I’ve always been fascinated with the push and flow of water through the landscape. Next year maybe I’ll paint the sheep!?

30″x 40″ oil/linen
I began this one at 5 below zero. I dressed warmly enough to have to take my gloves off though! Apple trees and the most beautiful mountain – great combo!

This is the second step in beginning an imaginative painting. The first was to spend time discovering the important elements of the pose to best describe the form and content of the idea. This step give me a reasonable idea of the degree of success of the idea and it’s possibilities. I feel good about continuing to the next step now, which will be to redraw it in the actual size that it is to be painted. This allows for further refinement of the drawing and the details and expression..
