Drawing the Human Figure Contact Peter Granucci 603-352-6828 petergranucci@mac.com
Location: Sharon Vermont Dates: Mondays 9a.m.-1p.m. Beginning September 5th for twelve weeks
Our continual fascination with the beauty and mystery of the human figure has made figure
drawing a cornerstone of western civilization’s definition of art.
In this 12 week series, Peter Granucci presents a sequential approach to seeing the body
from the inside out while learning to draw it with a sense of living energy and dynamics.
Peter deftly balances the use of observation and anatomical understanding with techniques
that help students gain independence in this understanding thus developing confidence in
drawing from memory. Practice in the development of line, form, values, perspective and
relationships will allow students to gain technical precision while increasing their individual
expressivity.
The course will be a combination of live models and projected image. There will be
focused, specific homework assignments, and beginning in week two, short critique
sessions and group discussions. Although the class will be divided into three four week
focus areas, attendance for each session is strongly recommended as the material will build
on the previous sessions.
4 weeks understanding anatomy and drawing the parts
4 weeks learning to draw from memory, parts and connections
4 weeks the figure as a whole
The cost is $50 per participating artist per four-hour session (that’s $12.50 p/hr), plus cost of model estimated as $60 or $12 per artist (if five). Total cost per session is thus estimated to be $62 or $65.

In this class you’ll work from projections and paint them as if you are on location. The logistics of being outside is a challenge unto itself, so you can, in the comfort of the studio, stay calm and focus on the painting process. I will teach and demonstrate various techniques for successful plein aire painting, focusing on developing clarity of intent and how to get it down quickly. This will help you when you are outdoors and the light is changing, you will be able to paint fast enough to capture it! We will experiment and develop a method appropriate to each person’s aesthetic.
